Qualcomm Technologies announced multiple collaborations within the automotive industry using its software platform Snapdragon digital chassis.

At IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich, Germany, the US semiconductor manufacturer said it was working with BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar Land Rover, Mahindra and Amazon Web Services.

The company has also introduced its expanded platform for two wheelers and new vehicle classes.

According to Reuters, chief executive Cristiano Amon said the company expected to have US$4bn in revenue from the automotive sector by 2026, rising to US$9bn by the end of the decade.

BMW is using Snapdragon platforms for 5G connectivity, introducing fast connections to vehicles equipped with iDrive QuickSelect and operating systems 8.5 and 9.

Its vehicles will use Snapdragon cockpit platforms for control, communication and infotainment.

The pair are also jointly developing ADAS systems set to debut in 2025.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) also plans to use the 5G Modem-RF to introduce 5G capability in various vehicles by 2025.

Digital chassis products are also in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan. These include cockpit and connectivity platforms.

Bosch is the system integrator and Tier-1 supplier for the cockpit platforms which also contribute to the MBUX touchscreen, navigation display, and augmented reality tech.

Mahindra & Mahindra is using digital chassis products to enhance functionality in upcoming SUVs. Cloud connected services will provide real time data insights and analysis during pre-production vehicle testing, optimising development.

Qualcomm said: “Mahindra will be the first global automaker to utilise data insights with edge diagnostics.”

It also plans to expand its digital chassis range to cater to the growing motorcycle, scooter, e-bike, and new vehicle markets.

Qualcomm and Amazon Web Services collaboration allows automakers to experiment with cloud technologies in their development processes.
